There’s a question that’s been stirring in the hearts of so many women I know—one I’ve felt in different ways myself.
“What if I’ve been building something God never asked me to build?”
Not because it was sinful.
Not because it failed.
Not because I didn’t love parts of it.
But because… maybe it wasn’t mine to carry.
At least not in this season.
As women, we wear many hats, wife, mother, business owner, creative, caretaker, teacher, friend. And somewhere along the way, the desire to help can quietly morph into the pressure to prove.
To prove we’re doing enough.
To prove we’re not “just” a stay-at-home mom.
To prove that we can contribute financially.
To prove that we can hold it all together.
And here’s the hard truth:
Sometimes that pressure looks like purpose.
Until one day, it doesn’t.
If you’re anything like me, you love to create. You love business. You love the idea of building something meaningful.
But maybe.. just maybe, it’s time to ask:
Was I called to this? Or did I call myself into this out of pressure, expectation, or comparison?
That’s not an easy question to sit with. Especially if your business has seen success, served people well, and carried a sense of identity.
But God isn’t asking for sacrifice at the altar of burnout.
He’s not impressed by hustle or striving.
He’s moved by surrender.
Sometimes the peace comes when we finally stop pushing the square peg into the round hole.
When we stop clinging to something just because we’ve already built it.
When we stop forcing ourselves to “keep going” out of fear that slowing down means failure.
But what if slowing down is the very thing that makes space for God to speak?
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
What if obedience looks like being present at home in this season?
What if the most faithful thing you can do isn’t scaling your business but scaling back?
That’s not weakness.
That’s wisdom.
I’ve spoken with so many women quietly carrying this same weight:
“I feel guilty for wanting to let it go.”
“My husband supports me, but also misses my presence.”
“I don’t feel peace in what I’m doing, but I’m afraid to stop.”
If this is you, I want you to hear this clearly:
Stepping back doesn’t mean you failed.
It might mean you’re finally listening.
You were never meant to hustle your way into worthiness.
You are already worthy.
Already called.
Already loved.
And if God is shifting your assignment He will give you peace in the pause.
You don’t need to rush a decision.
You don’t need to justify it to the world.
You just need to seek the One who knows the full story.
Sit with Him.
Ask the hard questions.
Wait for His whisper.
Because the business you built isn’t your identity.
Your obedience is.
And whether that leads you forward, or gently calls you back home for a while…
You can trust that His plans are good.
And so is yours when it’s rooted in Him.
